Notes: In the early days of the pilot it is likely that almost all searches using this facility will provide no results or results which are not particularly relevant.  It is only through Members that this facility can be built into a useful resource.  Unfortunately, to attract Members we need either to offer a useful resource or to convince foresighted people that with their help this can be built into something really useful.  A resource which can make a real difference to real people.  It is a catch 22 situation.  PLEASE read "the dream".

There are MANY reasons to become a Member and to help build Britain's largest database of legal professionals and their advocates and accusers.  One good reason is that the law Firm or professional YOU may be searching for is NOT already listed.  Click here for some more.

In the near future we face a shakeup in how the "consumer" (you and I) purchases legal services.  This is sometimes called "Tesco Law".  Regulation of the current legal profession has for many years been almost non-existent.  Change and new opportunities are a chance for the inexperienced to gain a foothold in "the business" and an opportunity for new rogues to prosper.  Governments and the law move slowly.  Just how long will it take before any "teething problems" are sorted out?  Given the track record of those regulating the current "profession" just how many people are likely to suffer if things are left to the Law Society and the Government?   If the Legal Services Ombudsman can criticise the "regulators" then so can the consumer.  If those in power fail then perhaps others should seek close the regulatory gap by shunning the BAD and favouring the GOOD.  Membership is FREE.

It would seem that in England and Wales alone there are over 70,000 law firms and hundreds of thousands of legal professionals.  Even with a growing membership it is likely to be a LONG time before all bases are covered.  However, it is not all bad news.  The first to be listed on this site are likely to be those that attract the most interest - either because they are very GOOD or because they are very BAD.  The former are precisely the people we want to encourage and the latter to avoid.  It may be a while before this database grows sufficiently to truly help significant numbers of people... but, if the Legal Services Ombudsman can talk about "Tesco Law" then perhaps "Every Little Helps"?

The above theory is actually supported by solicitors themselves.  Statistics vary, but most seem to agree that the Law Society alone deals with around 20,000 complaints a year.  Some suggest that one in five solicitors receive a complaint each year.  Many solicitors claim that they have never had a single complaint and that the figures are such because a few solicitors receive a lot of complaints.  One thing, at least, seems certain... some "professionals" are worth avoiding at all costs and this information is currently guarded and suppressed by the Law Society, to the detrement of everyone.  Maybe, together, WE can tip the balance.
