A Double-Edged Sword?
There are many advantages in aiming this site at the Legal Profession....
You are quick on the uptake of complex matters. You almost certainly have an inherent sense for what is reasonable behaviour, for a business, and for a solicitor.
You will have an intimate knowledge of the Rules for Professional Conduct promulgated by The Law Society - If you don't know Principle 17.03 off by heart, then you can refer to it in seconds. The same applies to CPR 44 and CPD s 13.5 and 13.6.
You also know Civil Courts, procedures and Judges. Given that most people turn to your profession for advice, you will know how easy it would be for a self-serving solicitor to abuse that position of trust - trust placed by the Client and trust by the Judges of our very Courts.
Based on personal experience and knowledge.... You have a "grape-vine" that is second-to-none. So perhaps you are NOT local? I still think that you should be concerned... it is, after all, your profession.
Finally, you will also be familiar with the OSS and the "press" it has received... from the Willing Blindness Report in 1999/2000... to the shakeup this week (19th April 2004). I assume that you are paying for this "service" via The Law Society? May I respectfully suggest that 20,000 complaints a year is too many and that a vast number of the users of the "service" are dissatisfied? My own experience suggests that you are not receiving value for money. I must assume that you are an honest professional? In that case, may I further suggest that both you and your Clients are being cheated by rouges supported by a "system" you and your Clients are paying for. Maybe YOU should voice an opinion?
