The Legal eXchange -  Dark Lists & Protest Sites - Find the Truth

This is really another links page listing some of the major Dark Lists and Protest Sites - some of which have been running for years - with a few comments.  It is NOT a comprehensive list - there are MANY more out there.  Try Colin Cole's List too.

Dark Lists - these sites (in the main) attempt to "name and shame" bad Firms, solicitors and other legal practitioners in the hope that others will avoid using them.  This is NOT what the Legal eXchange is about (though, where appropriate, Members can provide this function privately) but these sites certainly have a use.  There is seldom smoke without fire and if a Firm has a bad reputation do you really need to take the risk of using them?  If you are looking for a good legal professional you may wish to check out these lists and cross off any and all that appear to be smoking - see here, also.  What happens if you are already using someone listed?  Well, please don't panic.  We may have the Firm/individual listed too, in which case you can contact others to find out exactly what the beef is/was and take steps to avoid the same thing happening to you.  If we don't have a listing then please consider making one and placing a "want ad" - also, try contacting the site concerned and pass them our details too - maybe they can help.

Protest Sites - there are MANY of these covering MANY topics and the numbers are growing almost daily.  They are often started by individuals or groups who have exhausted all possible avenues but find the idea of doing nothing intolerable.  Most folk are approachable, really believe in what they are saying and want to raise public awareness.  Some are "rants" but most contain useful information too and link to other useful resources and information.  Some sites target Government, the regulators, the Police, the officials - others target individual Law Firms.  Many of these contain the "dark lists" mentioned above.

So, to list but a few...

Solicitors From Hell - www.solicitorsfromhell.co.uk - a site that has some similarities to us in that Rick maintains records of Firms named and shamed by the site's visitors.  Here you can list the rogues who have given bad service and search or browse for local firms.  The site is VERY easy to use and you don't have to register or leave your name.  He's been running a few months and (to date) has over 60 firms/solicitors listed and many of these link to external sites.  Well worth a look and, if you've had problems, maybe even worth making a quick posting.  What you can't do is TALK to the Clients - an important gap I hope the Legal eXchange can fill.

Parents For Protest - http://www.parents4protest.co.uk/p4p/solicitors.htm - currently list around 30 Firms you may wish to avoid - certainly for family matters.  A question you may wish to ask yourself - If they mistreat famalies in times of stress, how are they likely to treat others?  Do you need to take the risk?  Colin Cole provides a similar list and links here.

Professional Rogues - ProfRogues - http://www.geocities.com/profrogues/ - a site started on FREE Yahoo (Goecities) web-space with some well written accounts.  The end of the home page (currently) lists 9 Firms you may wish to avoid using, or at least treat with some suspicion.

UnJustIS - http://www.unjustis.co.uk/ - Paul Bantock's excellent site protests the failings of the Law Society and has been running for some years now.  Good links to similar sites and the News section (click here for the latest) shows just how BAD some so-called "Legal Professionals" can be.  A tremendous effort and well worth a visit.  In a related vein...

Solicitors From Hell - www.solicitorsfromhell.com - NOT to be confused with Rick's site (.co.uk) this one has been running for years.  Stacks of hard evidence and (it appears) the Law Society and the Firm Concerned tried very hard (making empty and useless threats) to have the site removed.  Another good and well established links section (sorry, you're BOUND to find some duplication on the older sites) and a (seemingly) light-hearted (satirical?) approach of giving nick-names to the "baddies".

Legal Bullies - http://www.legalbullies.co.uk - another protest site warning folks not to use a particular Law Firm and outlining the lack of regulation by the Law Society, the OLSO, the Police etc.  Also the failure of the Civil Courts to uphold the "Rules" and (even) the Law when a solicitor "needs protecting" - see here.
